KIDS EVENT How a Book Happens with Marty Kelley

  • The Bass Room in the Blue Hill Public Library 5 Parker Point Road Blue Hill, ME, 04614 United States (map)

Marty Kelley is currently a children’s author and illustrator but has, in the past, been a second grade teacher, a baker, a cartoonist, a newspaper art director, a drummer in a heavy metal band, a balloon delivery guy, an animator, and lots of other things.
He’s written and illustrated many of his own published picture books and chapter books (Ollie and Prema, Almost Everybody Farts, Pugnapped!)  as well as having illustrated several books for other authors (Santa’s Underwear, I’m an Alien and I Want to Go Home).

In a presentation for kids age 6 and older, author/illustrator Marty Kelley offers an engaging, fast-paced explanation of how he creates his wacky stories and illustrations. Marty will explain the writing process from generating ideas to writing rough drafts to editing and revising. Emphasizing the vital importance of revision, he’ll share a rough draft or two to demonstrate why it’s so important to keep working and reworking the writing. He’ll show us how he creates the artwork for his books and explain how the writing and illustrating processes are linked for him.

The presentation will end with a drawing demonstration and questions from the audience.
