WORKSHOP: Flash Memoir with Kate Moses

  • Word Blue Hill Literary Arts Festival Blue Hill, ME, United States (map)

An internationally recognized writer of award-winning, best-selling literary fiction and creative nonfiction, Kate Moses is the author of the critically acclaimed novel Wintering, about poet Sylvia Plath, and the memoir Cakewalk, and coedited the anthologies Mothers Who Think and Because I Said So. With four decades of editorial experience and advanced-level teaching of writing, Kate Moses shares her expertise with aspiring women writers at birdsandmuses.com, offering mentorship, craft education, and editorial guidance. You can find Kate on Substack at The Museletter, a newsletter about “women, writing, and women writing” (https://katemoses.substack.com/).

Compact, emotionally immediate, and surprising, “flash” memoir is “the writer’s experience of the world made small and large at the same time.” Participants will explore techniques that give flash writings their intensity and focus, reading examples from across the genre and generating flashes from their own material. They will have the opportunity to share writings and receive revision tips for these miniaturized distillations of memory and life.
